Nature on socials
Why nature on social is having a knock-on effect...IRL
I’ve made no secret to the fact that I love a bit of Bird of the Week on TikTok from the RSPB, it’s been a refreshing step-change to how charities can show up and connect with youth audiences in a new way. However a new study has found that young people’s engagement with content on Instagram, TikTok and Minecraft is shaping how they understand and interact with the natural world…IRL.
The research is from the University of Exeter, working with The Outward Bound Trust, and found teenagers often encounter nature while online which positive influences their perceptions and behaviours when visiting the countryside.
“Screen-based nature” content, from viral outdoor challenges to immersive virtual environments and a wave of natural imagery, video and ideas are introducing the real-life benefits of actually getting out into nature too.
Nice example of positive online/real-world experiences.
